Our intramural program is starting up this week! Students in grade 3-5 have signed up and have been placed on a ÉRBPL soccer team. Teams will play on their designated intramural day during lunch hours (12:20pm-1:00pm). Students should refer to the bulletin board outside the gym for a current schedule of games as well as a teams listing. Soccer intramurals will run until the end of October at which point a new sport will be chosen.
Another busy week in Phys. Ed. at ÉRB. On Wednesday we celebrated Terry Fox National School Run Day. All students and staff spent the last half an hour of the day walking around the school grounds to show their support for Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Students also brought in “Toonies for Terry”. We will have a total for our funds raised sometime later in the week.
Our Cross Country team had their first race on Thursday. Students ran a 800m loop around the Sansome and Westwood and KW yards. Participating schools included Phoenix School, Sansome School as well as us. All runners had a great first outing! Our next Cross Country race is at ÉRB on Tuesday, Sept. 30th. Hope to see you out cheering on our participants!
During Phys. Ed. classes, students of all grade levels continue to work on teamwork by playing a variety of cooperative games and activities. In the coming weeks we will continue more of the same but will also be working on some evaluation of the basic transport skills (running, hopping, skipping, galloping).
This coming week also marks the start of our online video school announcements. Les Infos RB. Check out our blog to view videos for the current week.
It’s been a wild first few weeks back at it! Starting September 5th things have taken off at warp speed and don’t seem to be slowing down and time soon.
Our Cross-Country season is well underway. Students will have their first race next Thursday, followed by two more races in a few weeks. Just a reminder that students will not be returning to ÉRB following the race at Sansome School (Sept 25th), they need to be picked up there at 4:20pm. Please advise M. Vermeylen if your child is carpooling, walking, etc… following the race. A huge ‘Thank You’ to Mme Flynn for all her help with the Cross-Country season so far.
Next week we will be celebrating National Terry Fox Day. September 25th @ 3:30pm we will be heading outside to walk/run around our school grounds to show support for Terry Fox and the work of the Terry Fox Foundation. Students are encouraged to bring a “Toonie for Terry” to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. Parents, grandparents, siblings and other family members are more than welcome to come out and celebrate with us!
In terms of classroom content most groups have spent the first few weeks getting back into the routines of Physical Education (using the change rooms, doing a proper warm up routine, etc…) We’ve also starting working through a variety of team work and cooperative games to start off the year.
Lastly, but certainly not the least, I was away for a few days over the past few weeks to celebrate the birth of my daughter Celeste Violet Vermeylen on Sept 12th, 2014!
Check out the video below for answers to all your frequently asked questions regarding day-to-day proceedings at École Robert Browning. A special “shout out” to the former ÉRB students that are featured in the video along with M. Proulx and M. Sorokowski for the filming, editing and directing expertise.
