Another short week this week. Students in all grade levels began a striking unit. Students had the chance to play a variety of games and activities depending on their grade level. Some examples of activities included golfing (on the ÉRB driving range), a “keep away” style game with hockey sticks and bean bags, and Gaga Ball (a tag game involving 5 large inflated omnikin balls and striking with our arms).
This week also wraps up the regular season for our grade five basketball teams. Both teams will play on March 6th at the friendship tournament and will also face off against the teachers before spring break. Congratulations to all the players and good luck at the tournament next week!
This past week we played a variety of games to really get us moving. Students played The Human Heart game, Pursuit Ball, Ant Raid, Batman and Robin as well as some other high energy games. With all the cold weather, and indoor recesses, it was nice for the students to have a chance to really run during their PE classes. Students will start to focus on some striking activities next week and will have no school on Friday as it is report card writing day.
Don’t forget that our grade 5 basketball teams each have one more game to play. The girls’ team plays on Tuesday night and the boys’ team plays on Thursday. Both games are at Sansome School and run from 4:05-4:50pm. Hope to see you there!
This week was a bit of a transition week in Phys. Ed. Students took part in a variety of fitness related stations/centres while M. Koester and I worked on evaluations of some of the fundamental movement skills. Students showed off their balancing skills (both static and dynamic) as well as their bouncing skills. Those 3 skills along with rolling will be the main component of this term’s “movement” portion of the report card. Students also had the chance to play some large group fitness games including: Fantastic 4, Pursuit and the Human Heart game.
On Wednesday students spent the entire day participating in Festival du Voyageur activities. In the gym groups had the chance to race each other in canoe portaging races. They had to navigate an obstacle course in groups of 3 with a “canoe” on over their heads. Later in the afternoon the entire school came down to the gym for our annual class canoe races. Groups of students pushed their teachers around the gym on “canoes”. It was a blast! Hope that everyone has a great long weekend!
This week we wrapped up our bouncing/basketball unit. We’ve had a chance to really work on the basics of proper bouncing technique and have also spent some time working on proper shooting technique (grade 3-5). Students will now be working on a variety of things including some fitness activities, striking activities as well as working on some evaluations for the upcoming report cards.
Students have had a week off from intramurals, however, next week we will be starting up a new intramural activity. The next activity is Yoshi a territory/invasion game that is extremely popular at ÉRB. Students in grades 3-5 have signed up and have been placed on teams. Intramurals will continue to run on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 12:20 -1:05.
Just a friendly reminder to our basketball players. Our first games will be on February 10th (girls) and Feb 12th (boys). Players need to arrange their own transportation to the game. See you there!
