Our first full week of gymnastics last week. We have the divisional gymnastics equipment to supplement our own set for two weeks. Students will be working on landings, rolls, supports, and a variety of other gymnastics/circus arts during our two weeks.
Some of the activities we’ve been working on are Mission Impossible (where students are secret agents trying to not set off alarms), Eliminator races (a throw back to American Gladiators) and some station work to work on specific skills.
We have the gymnastics set for one more week. Once we wrap that up we will be moving on to some racquet sports. On a side note, don’t forget to register for the High 5 Run. The race is just a little over a month away. Check out highfiverun.wordpress.com for more info.
A week full of fitness last week. Students did a variety of fitness stations, timed runs, beep tests, and other fitness-themed activities. One of the more popular activities was definitely GaGa Ball. This very simple game seems to be taking over online and is definitely worth a try. Our students love it!
GaGa ball is quite simple. Set up a “pit”. We used tables turned on their side. It’s best to make them into a hexagon shape. Use a ball that’s big enough to hit and light enough that it won’t hurt too much when hitting it or being hit by it. Play with as many players as you like. Fill up the pit and then drop the ball to get started. If the ball touches you below the waist you are out. Only underhand striking of the ball is allowed. That’s about it! Check out our instagram for a few short videos of our students playing
Last week was also Exercise Week as part of Wellness Month. We started each day with an “Active Start”. Students did a short 5-10 minute walk of the halls prior to starting the day. Next week our theme is Mindfulness. Students will be “taking 10” as part of a meditation program through the Headspace App.
Lots on the go this past week. As we made our return from Spring Break students started up Wellness Month. The theme for the first week of April was hydration. Students logged how much water they were drinking daily. Next week we will focus on exercise. Our goal is for everyone to get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day.
We wrapped up our golfing unit this past week and will be starting up a fitness week in the coming week. This was our first time trying out the divisional SNAG Golf set that was newly purchased this year. This kids had a great time…especially with the velcro suit!
Next week we will be starting up our Marathon Club. Forms went home early this past week. Monday is our first practice. See you at 8:15!
