A very full week this past week in Phys. Ed.. We started off the week with a bang. Halloween was a big event at ÉRB. Students had one last crack at the Haunted House during the morning, and we had our annual costume parade in the gym in the afternoon. A fun, high energy day for everyone involved.
We were very fortunate this past week. We had a special guest from École Nationale de Cirque visit us for two mornings. M. Sylvain Rainville from ÉNC is a coach, trainer, teacher at the school and is a specialist in the Hand-to-Hand discipline of circus arts. He worked with our grade 4 and 5 students that are involved in the circus study. We learned a lot of neat things from him. It was really a nice treat to have him in!
We also started up our Target Games unit with regular PE classes. We have the divisional gym curling sets for the next two weeks. We’ve been curling, bowling and playing a few other target games in class. It’s been a nice change of pace from the other activities that we’ve been doing so far this year. We will continue with target games next week, then we will transition to indoor soccer to wrap up the month of November.
A Halloween-themed week last week in Phys. Ed. Students had the chance to walk through the haunted house (haunted basement). We also played a few different Halloween games. Pumpkin Patch tag, Ghostbusters, Graveyard just to name a few. Students will be wrapping up these activities on Monday and then will be starting some curling/bowling in the coming days.
Team Handball is going strong at ÉRB. The boys’ and girls’ teams have a record number of participants this year. Practices have been going well. Both teams play their first games of the season this week. Boys play on Wednesday and the girls play on Thursday. Best of luck to both groups!
To celebrate Halloween this past week we had students go through the haunted house. Students in K-5 had a few opportunities to go into the haunted house (in the basement of ÉRB). Most students really enjoyed themselves, with only a few opting out from going through. It’s always a tricky thing to find a balance of making something scary, but not too scary. The students were very brave!
Next week the change rooms will be available again. Those students that normally change for Phys. Ed. classes will need to have appropriate gym clothes again starting November 2nd.
Hope that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween!
During this shortened week of Phys. Ed. we worked our way through our fitness tracking. Students managed to get their timed runs, 100 second challenges and beep tests finished. Everyone did a fantastic job! It will be interesting to compare our stats when we do another week of fitness tracking in the middle of the winter. This coming week students will have the opportunity to go through the haunted house and play a few more halloween-themed games.
Just a friendly reminder that Team Handball teams have started their practices (Boys on Days 2 & 6 at lunch and Girls on Days 1 & 2 in the morning). We’ve also started up our Juggling Club, which meets on day 1 at lunch. Hope to see you out.
During our post Thanksgiving weekend week of Phys. Ed. we started working on our fitness unit. Students in all grades will be completing 3 different fitness activities and will be logging their data. We will be doing fitness work 3 times this year (fall, winter and spring) and will hope to see improved results throughout the year. The three fitness activities include a Pacer Test (Beep Test), a Timed Run and a 100 second challenge. Most classes had a chance to complete the timed run portion of our fitness tracking this past week.
We also had the chance to play a few Halloween-related games during the week including Trick-or-Treat Tag, Ghostbusters, Zombie Tag and Pumpkin Patch. We will continue with the same theme for next week and will follow up our fitness week with a week of time to go through the Haunted House before Halloween.
Last week in Phys. Ed. we started to make the transition from our basic, introductory games to some more skill specific games. We’ve started to work on our transport skills (running, jumping, hopping, skipping and galloping) in a variety of activities. We’ve also spent some time at the beginning of our PE classes to work a little bit on our juggling skills. M. Koester is going to be starting up a Juggling Club on Day 1. All students in grades 3-5 that are interested are welcome to come out and try to master the art of juggling.
This past week we also had our divisional cross-country race. Congratulations to all of our participants, you ran hard and were great representatives for our school! A special congratulations to Adam H. for finishing 1st overall in the grade 4 boys’ category. Way to go Adam!
In the coming weeks we will be spending some time working on our personal fitness as well as playing some Halloween-themed games. The week prior to Halloween students will have a chance to pass through our Haunted Basement.
One final note for the week. Our “Toonies for Terry” campaign as part of our Terry Fox Run has raised $448.90. Thanks to everyone for their support!
Hope that everyone had a safe and fun Halloween! Last week in Phys. Ed. students continued to play a variety of Halloween-themed games and also had a chance to go for a walkthrough of the maison hauntée. We’ve also finished up our evaluations of some of the basic transport skills (running, skipping, galloping, hopping). These are the skills that will make up the “movement” portion of term 1’s reporting.
Next week we will finish up evaluations for term 1 and will start to look at some of the manipulation skills (throwing, catching, striking). Students will also finish up intramural soccer by playing matches against the staff.
Team Handball season starts up next week on Nov. 12th and 13th. Hope to see you out cheering on our teams!
Another short week this week. Students in all grade levels started playing a variety of Halloween-themed games. Some of the more popular ones were: Zombie Tag, Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkins On The Fence and Graveyard. In the week ahead we will continue with Halloween games as well as Haunted House tours.
Team Handball teams have continued with practices and will have their first games in only a few more weeks. Don’t forget that practices run on Tuesdays (Boys) and Thursdays (Girls) from 8:15am to 9:00am.
Here’s a video walkthrough of the haunted house. All students will have the opportunity to go through the haunted house on two occasions before Halloween. Enjoy!
A short recap for a short week! Students were busy burning off all that turkey playing a variety of games last week. Most students were working on transportation skills, while others were work on finalizing their fitness reports. Speaking of fitness reports, they went home last week. If your child is in grade 3-5 they should have one to discuss with you. If you need more guidance on what to discuss you can find that in my previous blog post.
Soccer intramurals are still going strong. The winning team from each grade level is going to have a chance to play soccer against the teachers in mid November.
This coming week kicks off our Halloween games unit. Students will be participating in a variety of Halloween-themed games and will get to tour the Maison Hauntée.
