Over the past few weeks in Phys. Ed. we’ve been doing a wide variety of things. We have been working a bit on our striking. Students have played some variations of cricket and baseball both indoors and outdoors. We’ve also been wrapping up our term 3 evaluations for report cards. This term we are looking at striking, dribbling, static and dynamic balance as our main skills of focus. Lastly, we’ve had the divisional rollerblade set for two weeks. Students have been using the drop off/pick up loop as their rollerblading track. It’s been a really great experience for those students that may not have had the opportunity to rollerblade at home.
Marathon Club has also started winding down. We will still have practice next week, however, with the big race being on June 18th, it will be our last two practices. Between parents, siblings and current students we have approximately 30 participants in the 2.6mile Super Run as well as a couple participants doing the 10km event this year. Best of luck to all of our runners.
The totals are in from our High 5 Community 5km Run. This year was our biggest year yet with 154 participants! We also raised over $200.00 for Kidsport Manitoba! Way to go everyone! Hope to see all our runners out again next May for the 4th year of our event.
Not too much shaking in Phys. Ed. this past week. Things are gradually winding down. We’ve been spending as much time as possible outdoors, but the weather hasn’t cooperated a ton yet. Students have been playing a wide variety of games and activities this week. Many of them have been some of the favourite games that we’ve played throughout the school year.
One piece of big news for ÉRB Phys. Ed. this week is that it’s Manitoba Marathon race day this weekend. Our school has about 30 students, parents and staff running in the various marathon events on June 19th. If you are looking for a fun thing to do on Sunday morning why not come out and cheer on the runners. Keep your eyes peeled for some blue ÉRB jerseys on the Super Run course. Best of luck to all of our runners!
This past week in Phys. Ed. was week 2 of our Wellness Month. The theme for the week was exercise. Students started every day off with a 10 minute walk around the halls of the school as a way of getting an “active start” to our day. Students were recording their activity time daily with hopes of getting 60 minutes of activity per day.
In Phys. Ed. classes we concentrated heavily on speed stacking. Students worked on the 3-6-3 and the Cycle Stack in order to get their best times possible. 12 students were selected to represent our school at the divisional speed stacking tournament next week.
This week was also the first week for our Marathon Club. 30 students and parents braved the -17 temperatures to run. We will be practicing weekly in April and then twice a week once we hit May. Hope to see you all out again on Monday morning at 8:15am.
Marathon Club will be starting up soon. April 11th at 8:15am is our first practice. Students in grades 3-5 that are interested in running are welcome to join, regardless of running experience. We will be handing out permission forms this morning. If you would like more information or if your child didn’t bring home a permission form please visit our Teams & Clubs page to find out more! Hope to see you out!
The past two weeks have been very busy here at ÉRB. Lots of different things going on. We have been working on soccer/kicking during PE classes. Students have been playing 4 Corner Soccer, Sasquatch Soccer, and a variety of other soccer related games. We will continue to work on our soccer skills in the upcoming week.
We also hosted the 1st Annual High 5 Community 5km Fun Run. It was a huge success! We had 125 participants running and walking our 2.5km and 5km course. We also raised approximately $300.00 to donate to Kidsport Manitoba. We couldn’t have asked for a better evening for a run. Thanks to everyone that participated or volunteered! Hope to see you out again next year. You can still visit our race website at highfiverun.wordpress.com for info about this year’s race.
Our badminton and marathon clubs have also been very active. Our running group has been meeting twice a week, and is well into our training to participate in the Super Run held on June 21st at the University of Manitoba. Our badminton players have been busy working on their skills in preparation for our badminton tournament which is held at Strathmillan School on June 5th. Best of luck to all our participants.
Spring has sprung at ÉRB! Last week marked the beginning of our Marathon Club practices. We have over 40 students out with us training to run upwards of 2 miles. Practices run on tuesdays/thursdays from 8:15-8:55am. Great job runners!
In class we are continuing to work on striking. We have now wrapped up our basic striking unit and will be moving on to racquet sports in the coming weeks. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will have a chance to do some racquet sports outdoors.
We have now finalized our speed stacking team for the upcoming tournament on April 22nd. You can check out the teams & clubs section for more information on who made the team. Best of luck to all participants.
Tomorrow morning we will be holding our last Marathon Club practice. Students, staff and parents have been busy training since late April with the intentions of running in the Great West Life Super Run this weekend (June 15th).
I wanted to wish all 45+ students and parents running this weekend the best of luck in their races! It truly is a huge accomplishment for you all to go out and run this coming weekend. I also wanted to thank the Manitoba Marathon School Programs group for helping to make this event and the training leading up to it run so smoothly.
Here’s a little video to get you pumped up for the race this weekend.

Didn’t participate this year? There’s still a great opportunity to be part of the festivities this Sunday. Why not come out and cheer on the racers? A detailed map of the marathon route is available at http://www.manitobamarathon.mb.ca
I also wanted to take this chance to stay thanks to M. Phillippe Chabot and M. Colin Steele, two teachers that motivated me to by the runner that I am today! I’ll be participating in my first (and probably last!) full marathon this weekend.
