It’s freezing out…better stay indoors!

The cold weather seems like it’s here to stay!  At least for a little while.  Unfortunately the extreme weather conditions have forced us to put our cross-country skiing unit on hold.  Students from grades 3, 4 and 5 all had the opportunity to get out on skis a few times, but we will need to wait till we get a break in the weather before heading out again.  Fingers crossed that it happens before the end of the month!

Due to the cold weather all students (K-5) have been staying indoors and working on some gymnastics basics.  We will continue to do so for the next week or two.  Students will be introduced to the basics of proper landings, springs, rolls and a few supports.   The goal is to give all students a taste of what a more intensive gymnastics program might include.

Happy 2014! Welcome Back!

Happy New Year!  Hope that everyone had a safe, fun and active holiday break.  Although Winnipeg is experiencing a deep freeze, things are really starting to heat up in Physical Education this month.  Once we finally get some warmer weather the students in grades four and five will be cross-country skiing.  (Please make sure to send additional warm clothes to school for Phys. Ed. classes).

Students in kindergarten to grade three will be participating in a wide variety of games to work on their throwing and catching skills.  All students will also be starting some work in the area of personal fitness testing and self monitoring their body systems, and how the individual systems react to exercise.  Should be a fun and exciting month!

Try to stay warm!
