Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Dec. 8th – Dec. 12th)

During this past week in Phys. Ed. we’ve been focusing on holiday-themed activities and rolling practice.  Students have been playing a variety of games including Candy Cane Tag, Whoville Strikes Back!, Reindeer Training, and Frosty The Snowman.  We’ve also spent some time playing Knockout Ball a very popular game that puts one goalie against another goalie in an all out rolling battle.

Some variations of the game included playing two against two, three against three, or even playing multiple games of one against one on the same court.  In this case students had to be very aware of their surroundings and really worked on their spatial awareness and collision avoidance.

We will continue with rolling and holiday-themed activities right up until the winter break.  Students will start the new year with Gymnastics in early January!

High 5 Community 5km Run

I’m very excited to announce that on May 21st, 2015 we will be hosting a road race at École Robert Browning.  The High 5 Community 5km is going to be open to all staff, students and families from our family of schools (École Robert Browning, Sansome School, Phoenix School, Lincoln Middle School and Westwood Collegiate).  We are currently in the planning stages of the race, however, you can find a little more information at the race website.  You can also follow the hashtag #high5run on Twitter.

Stay tuned in early January 2015 for more information on how you can get involved!

Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Dec. 1st – Dec. 4th)

A short week last week.  During the week students finished up their dance unit by participating in our annual Dance-A-Thon.  This year the theme was Dancing With The Stars. Students danced all afternoon to a variety of music from the early 1900s all the way to current hits of today.  The highlights were definitely the Cha Cha slide and the Hamster Dance.  Well done everyone! Looking forward to seeing how much money we raised!

On Wednesday the grade 5 team handball players participated in our district #3 friendship tournament with Sansome School and Phoenix School.  All players did a fantastic job!

During the remainder of the week we started working on some rolling activities as well as a few holiday-themed games.  This will continue into the next few weeks as we head into the winter break.

Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Nov. 24 – Nov. 28th)

Last week in Phys. Ed. students were busy learning all the dances that they will be performing at our annual Dancing With The Stars fundraising Dance-A-Thon on December 2nd, 2014.  Some of the dances include: Cha Cha Slide, Old Port Butterfly, Macarena, Charleston, Hamster Dance, YMCA and many others.  All students will be dancing from 1:30-3:30 on the 2nd and are encouraged to dress up as their favourite star on that day.  Hope to see you there!

In between dance practices students also had the chance to work on perfecting their throwing technique.  Classes played a variety of low organized games with M. Koester to work on the finer points of the overhand and underhand throw.  Throwing and catching are two of the basic movements that will be reported on in the coming term.

Last friday we celebrated National Jersey Day at École Robert Browning.  We had a great turn out and a huge variety of teams supported.  Our photo was submitted in hopes of winning the grand prize, an autographed Winnipeg Jets jersey.  Fingers crossed!
