Wellness Month

April is Wellness Month at ÉRB!  Students will be participating in 4 weeks of wellness-themed activities throughout the month of April.  The four themes are Hydration, Exercise, Meditation/Mindfulness and Sleep Tracking.  Each student will be tracking various things based on each theme.  You are encouraged to keep the discussion going at home with your child(ren).  Wellness is important to us all!

For week 1 (Hydration Week) students need to water bottle at school.  Please send your child with one for Monday April 4th.  Any kind of bottle will do (reuseable, plastic).

Looking forward to working towards school-wide wellness this April!

Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Mar 14th – Mar 18th)

This past week in Phys. Ed. we continued to work on our racquet sports.  Students spent some time working with badminton and tennis equipment in a variety of situations.  All classes from Kindergarten right up to grade 5 had the chance to experiment with racquet sports.

Students will wrap up their striking next week prior to spring break.  Following our break we will be starting up volleyball and speed stacking.  On Thursday next week we will be having our annual Teachers vs Students basketball game.  Students that participated in grade 5 basketball will be playing again the teachers team during periods 7 & 8.  Best of luck to all players.

One last plug, reminder, update…registration for the 2nd annual High 5 Community 5km Run is now open! Visit: highfiverun.wordpress.com  for more info.  Hope to have a bigger and better race this year!  Can’t wait till May 25th.

Better late than never!  Congrats to all our basketball participants that took part in the district #3 friendship tournament on March 4th!

Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Mar.7th – Mar. 11th)

Lots of striking here at ÉRB.  This past week we started transitioning from striking below the waist to striking above the waist.  Students starting exploring a bit with badminton and tennis and wrapped up their time with hockey and ringette. We will continue to work on striking in the coming weeks prior to our spring break.

We also lost some gym space during our project fair this past week, so we needed to be creative.  Some classes had the chance to work on their juggling and speed stacking, while others worked a bit on pyramid building.  The students were very accommodating and seemed to really enjoy the change of pace from the everyday activities that we were doing.

Students have already been asking, so to keep everyone in the loop, Volleyball will be starting up after spring break for the grade 5 students.  We will be participating in a friendship tournament in early May.  Speed stacking time trials will also be starting up.  Our top 12 stackers in the school will have a chance to represent us at the divisional tournament on April 21st.  Stay tuned!

Last Week In Phys. Ed. (Feb. 29th – Mar. 4th)

This week we started looking at striking, more specifically striking below the waist.  Being the middle of winter in the Winnipeg the obvious choice was to have the students play some hockey and ringette to work on our striking skills.

Students spend some time working on skills (stick handling, shooting and breakaways) and also had a chance to play a few hockey games as well as hockey-related games.  We will continue to work on some striking skills next week and then slowly transition into racquet sports in the coming weeks.

This week is also the end of the basketball season.  All players will have one more chance to play today at our annual friendship tournament held at Sansome School from 1:10-3:30pm.  Thanks for a great season everyone!  Thanks to Mme Flynn and M. Koester for their help with coaching.
